REAL LIFE IMITATES FED: RIOTS

It's common to log into Fed and see news of rioting throughout the Galaxy:

News is coming in of serious rioting on Bassetopia...
News is coming in of serious rioting on Jollyrodger...
News is coming in of serious rioting on Arctic...
News is coming in of serious rioting on Lilypad...
News is coming in of serious rioting on Rigel 4 (of course!)...

And so on.

It's not so common to wake up to hear the news talking about riots breaking out in your home town:

News is coming in of serious rioting in Enfield...
News is coming in of serious rioting in East Ham...
News is coming in of serious rioting in Beckton...

Well, Beckton's just down the road from where I work. Our security workers locked up the gates to the college and only opened them when we wanted to leave. On Tuesday, we were all sent home an hour early because there were gangs being chased by police in the local streets.

News is coming in of serious rioting in Lewisham...
News is coming in of serious rioting in Peckham...
News is coming in of serious rioting in Bermondsey...

Hmmm. Connect those areas on the map and you form a small triangle. I live about in the center of the triangle.

Fortunately the riots were confined to small-ish areas and didn't reach my home, nor did I have any problems going to or from work. And after a few days of impotence, the police got their act together and the looters decided not to bother any more.

So now I can go back to paying attention to the purely fictional rioting in Fed DataSpace!
