REAL LIFE NEWS: IPADS IN SPAAAAACE!

by Hazed

The Russians have just sent a cargo spaceship to the International Space Station, containing essential supplies such as food, oxygen and water. But that's not all it is carrying: it's also taking two iPads.

"They are going to be used for entertainment purposes only," said NASA spokesman Kelly Humphries. What, no app to control the ISS's mechanisms? How disappointing.

They will join the iPods and an iPhone already on board. There are also laptop computers on the ISS, but these will be the first tablets.

Humphries said that NASA was interested in investigating how the iPads could be used in space in the future. "The US folks in the station programme are taking a look at a number of different tablets and kind of comparing and contrasting them," he said. "They are hoping to be able to fly one or more of them next year, but as yet the evaluation is not complete."

Meanwhile, the astronauts will have a new toy to play with in their spare time.
