THE LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

by Hazed

Last month, Alan put in a fix for a loophole which allowed cartel owners to get free money. But as often happens, this had an unintended consequence which has led to a number of players reporting a bug.

What they reported is that when they tried to jump through hyperspace, they were prevented and told:

You don't have any money in your treasury to cover the customs dues!

Well, the customs people were certainly being a bit over-zealous.

What the message means is that since your treasury is negative, the money to pay the customs men in the system you are jumping to is not there. The old loophole meant the cartel treasury would get the money anyway - but not any more.

The problem is that the customs duty is only supposed to be payable if you jump to a different cartel - but the revenooers were turning you back even if you jumped to another system in the same cartel. They have now been told not to be so silly, and you will find that if you have a negative balance you will be able to move around in the cartel, and only get stopped if you jump to another cartel.

If you really do want to trade in a different cartel then you'll need to get rid of that negative balance. Trade within your cartel until it's back to a positive value, or if you have more than one planet in your system, you can transfer money over from a treasury that isn't in the red. Otherwise, you can do a bit of personal trading, and then transfer the proceeds from your personal balance to the planet. 'HELP TRANSFER' will remind you how to do both of those things.

Once you have brought your planet's treasury up to a positive level again, you will be able to sell your goods further afield should you so desire.
