(That phenomenon is called the uncanny valley, and it also applies to computer-generated images of people, in video games or animated films, that never quite look real enough.) Now there’s a display of Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro’s creations on show in the Takashimaya department store in Tokyo, guaranteed to make passers-by feel uneasy.
