REAL LIFE NEWS: ALIEN SEX WOULD HAVE CONFUSED TEENAGERS
by Hazed
Looking back at the things that film censors were concerned about in the past is always amusing, and sometimes a little befuddling. Things that were once banned as being too awful to allow anyone to see are now available on DVD.
News came out this week of one particularly bizarre decision by the British Board of Film Classification. When the classic film Alien was released in 1979, they gave it an X rating which meant only those over 18 could see it. The reason was not because it was gory or frightening... no, it was because teenagers might get confused by the idea of alien sexual reproduction!
The archives show that one of the film’s disturbing sequences, where a crew member examines a pulsating alien egg, was deemed to present a ‘perverse view of the reproductive function’.
Very strange!
