REAL LIFE NEWS: SOMETIMES AN APPLE IS JUST AN APPLE

by Hazed

Sometimes the word Apple doesn’t refer to the company that produces iThings. Sometimes the word apple just means the fruit - you know, the stuff you eat. Unfortunately the owner of a cider shop in Norfolk, England, couldn’t get the message through to callers...

The Apple Shop, in the small village of Wroxham Barns, specialises in selling local cider - the alcoholic drink made from apples. But ever since an Apple Store (the computer variety) opened up in Norwich, people have been mistaking the Apple Shop for the Apple Store, and phoning up asking for help with their iPhones.

The owner of the shop, Geoff Fisher, said, “My telephone number has a Norwich prefix and so people unawares ring up the Apple Shop. All I can say to them is, ‘I’m very sorry, I can’t help you, but please do come along and get some proper Norfolk cider to get over your sorrows’.”

He said that he found the confusion funny, most of the time, but that some callers got a bit cross: “Some people are very rude and they slam the phone down.”

He is now giving in, and from Easter onwards the shop will be known as the Norfolk Cider Shop.
