DEAD PLAYERS AND DEAD STAR SYSTEMS

by Hazed

When we introduced abandoned star systems last week (see the previous issue of the Star if you missed the details) a player asked me if it was the precursor to us removing all abandoned systems from the game.

Well, no, that’s not it. Of course we do run periodic purges of the player database to remove characters (and their planets) who haven’t been on for many years, so the systems that have been abandoned the longest will eventually vanish.

But this exercise threw up an anomaly. There are some systems where the owner isn’t just absent, he she or it is dead. By which I mean, of course, dead-dead – gone from the game entirely, whether through accident or design.

When a PO dies dead-dead, their planets do not get removed from the game automatically. They stay in until we take them out manually. We tend not to be very prompt about doing this!

But anyone with factories should, from time to time, check the planets on which they are sited and see if the PO still exists in the game. If they don’t, then sooner or later we will get round to pulling the planets. If that happens, you will lose your factories – and you won’t get any compensation.

You have been warned!
