REAL LIFE NEWS: SEE, I TOLD YOU SOY SAUCE WAS BAD FOR YOU!
by Hazed
A young man in Virginia has entered the record books, but not in a good way: he has become the first person to have almost died from drinking soy sauce, but to have suffered no lasting effects.
He was dared by his friends to drink a quart of the condiment. The excess of salt sent him into a coma and almost killed him. The doctors who treated him say it’s very unusual for someone to have no lasting neurological problems after ingesting such a large quantity of a salty substance.
The condition of having too much salt in the blood is called hypernatremia, and it’s usually seen in those who have psychiatric conditions which cause them to develop a craving for salt. An excess of salt in the blood stream is dangerous because it causes the brain to lose water, making it shrink and bleed.
So be warned: if your friends dare you to drink soy sauce, tell them to get lost!
