REAL LIFE NEWS: FAVORITE CREDIT CARD PINS
by Hazed
There are 10,000 possible numbers you can choose as the PIN for your credit card. So why is it that so many pick one that is easily guessable?
A recent study has found that the most popular PIN is 1234. Second most popular is 1111, followed by 0000, then 1212 and 7777.
The DataGenetics blog used data from security breaches and password tables that had been exposed previously to analyze the passwords that people chose. They said the results were “staggering” and betrayed a “lack of imagination”.
Other common numbers were 1901 to 1999, as people used the year of their birth. (Presumably the earlier years were popular when ATMs were first introduced, but not so much these days - unless there are a load of 113 year olds using credit cards!)
The least common, used only 25 times out of the 3.4 million examined, was 8068.
If you’re one of those using a common PIN, perhaps you should think about changing it!
