Two stories about dumb criminals who were caught because they left their DNA behind at the scene of the crime.
Don’t Eat That Cucumber!
Mike Donnelly, a 22-year-old man from the north of England, broke into a greenhouse and ate some of the produce. He then smashed the window of the owners’ house and ransacked it, making off with treasured possessions, and their car.
But he made one mistake. While in the greenhouse, he’d taken a bite out of a cucumber and then left the half-eaten vegetable behind. As a result, police were able to get his DNA and track him down.

Don’t Eat That Cookie!
On a similar note, a burglar in south London, England, befriended five elderly local residents in one day, stealing from each one of them. She span them a sob story and then took the opportunity to loot their homes.
But at one of her targets’ abodes she only ate half of the biscuit she’d been offered, leaving behind the other half of the chocolate cookie. Police lifted DNA from the discarded food and she’s now been jailed for four years.
