SERVER OUTAGE LAST WEDNESDAY

You may have noticed that Fed was down for a couple of hours on Wednesday around the time of the reset. This was due to maintenance on the cloud server that the game runs on.
Our service provider told us about the maintenance a few days in advance – unfortunately it wasn’t in time for me to put a warning in last week’s Star. They said that the upgrade to their systems would happen in the morning, and then at some point during the period 12.30pm to 1.30pm UK time they would reboot all the servers, resulting in an outage of approximately ten minutes.
In the event, things did not go to plan. Do they ever? They switched everything off around 12.30, but didn’t get the servers back up again until gone 2.30.
So what does this mean for Fed? Well, as far as I can see, the game did save all its data when everything was turned off so there should be no losses of money from balances. However, it’s possible that any outstanding futures would not have been resolved, so if you didn’t close them out before you went to bed and relied on the game reset to give you your profits, you probably just lost them. If that’s the case, you can email feedback@ibgames.com and ask for compensation for your lost profits (don’t forget to put Fed2 somewhere in the subject line).
Anyone owning a company may have found that the cycle day did not increment as expected at the reset on Thursday. That is often a consequence of the game firing up later than the normal reset time, because the cycle day will only go up by one if it has been 24 hours since the last increase – otherwise, on the rare occasions that the game crashes, the cycle day would go up more than once in 24 hours.
As far as I know those should be the only effects of the outage, but if you spot anything else odd you should email feedback.
