INVENTION OF THE WEEK – NAY, THE CENTURY: ANTI-AGEING CHOCOLATE

Good news for chocoholics who don’t want to get old, for scientists have developed a chocolate bar which slows the signs of ageing.
The chocolate contains an antioxidant which keeps flamingos pink. The team who developed it at Cambridge University claim it improves the skin’s physiology and brings the biomarkers of the skin of a 50 or 60-year-old back to the levels of a 20 or 30-year-old.
In clinical trials, volunteers who ate the chocolate daily for four weeks had an increased blood supply to skin tissue, and less inflammation in their blood, because of a boost in the level of antioxidants and increased blood circulation. All of which should prevent wrinkles.
The product has been called Esthechoc, and is also known as Cambridge Beauty Chocolate. It’s likely to have a hefty pricetage when it hits upmarket retailers next month.
If it sounds too good to be true, well, other academics are not convinced by its powers and think it needs more clinical trials to prove the claims. But that’s not likely to stop potential buyers; after all, people have always been willing to buy all kinds of expensive stuff in an effort to stop looking old without much in the way of evidence.
