PICTURE OF THE WEEK: EARTH, SEEN FROM LAGRANGE 1
by Hazed
A new satellite called DSCOVR has arrived at its station where it will spend its time monitoring solar weather, and it’s just sent back a beautiful image of the sunlit side of the Earth.
DSCOVR stands for Deep Space Climate Observatory. Its new home is one million miles away from Earth, in a point where the gravity of our planet and that of the sun reach an equilibrium which means it will remain steady in position. This area is called a Lagrange Point.
