REAL LIFE NEWS: PHILAE’S BOUNCES GAVE US EXTRA DATA
by Hazed
The Philae lander, which bounced across the comet 67P before coming to a halt in the shadow of a cliff, has fallen silent again. But the mission’s scientists are starting to release papers which detail their findings – and it looks like the messed-up landing may have been a blessing in disguise.
The fact that Philae didn’t touch down cleanly, but instead bounced four times, has given us more close ups of the comet than expected.
A special issue of Science magazine has now been released with nine papers about the comet. Check out the source link below for the subjects of those papers, and to find out why scientists are so excited about some of the findings.
The European Space Agency hopes that Philae will wake up again because there is still so much to learn about the comet.
