DUMB CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK: ONCE, TWICE, THREE TIMES A CAR THIEF
by Hazed
A teenage car thief just didn’t know when to pack it in – he was caught by police after being involved in three separate car theft incidents.
Carnell Eugene Butler, an 18-year-old from St Petersburg in Florida, was on probation, having stolen car number one. But clearly he didn’t understand that “probation” means you need to stay out of trouble, because when police searched another stolen car, they found his court documents from the first case, as well as identifiable personal items. So that’s car number two.
The police contacted Butler and told him they’d found some of his stuff, so he showed up at the police station to collect the personal items, where he was promptly arrested for the second theft. He was searched, and the police found a set of car keys in his pocket so the detective “acting on a hunch” went looking for the car that the keys would unlock, and found parked a block away. Guess what – it turned out to be stolen too. Yes, he’d driven to the police station in another stolen vehicle – car number three.
He’s now awaiting trial on two counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle, for violation of probation, and for an additional two counts of burglary of an occupied dwelling.
Some criminals really are too dumb to know when to stop.
