DUMB CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK: COMPLAINING ABOUT WANTED POSTER LEADS TO ARREST

by Hazed

We laugh and laugh when we read about all these dumb criminals that get caught by doing stupid things in the process of committing a crime. Even funnier is when their stupidity causes them to give themselves away after the fact.

Take the case of Nicholas Allegretto. He walked into a police station to complain that a picture that had been taken of him committing a robbery had been printed in the media. It didn’t seem to occur to him that the police might want to speak to him about the crime he had been photographed committing.

The barmy thing was that nobody would have recognised him from the picture, if he hadn’t drawn attention to it and told police it was him!

The picture came from the CCTV system of a hardware store in Cambridge, England. The owner of the shop had a rogues’ gallery of photos put up in his shop showing alleged thieves, and Allegretto had been added to it after he was spotted stealing a magnet worth £23.75.

Local news and social media picked up the image and published it, but the perp’s face was covered with two bars so it would have been impossible to tell who it was – you can see the picture at the source link below. Nevertheless, he felt aggrieved enough to complain about it to the police, saying that his family had been mocked about it and he’d lost his job.

He was found guilty of theft and is awaiting sentence.
