REAL LIFE NEWS: PLUTO MAY HAVE ICE VOLCANOES
by Hazed
Scientists are continuing to study the information sent back by New Horizons as it zoomed past Pluto, and they are finding more and more strange things.
The latest speculation is that the planet might have ice volcanoes. Icy peaks which have been informally named Wright Mons and Piccard Mons could be cryovolcanoes that once spread out an icy slurry across Pluto’s surface.
But the mystery is, where would the energy to drive such activity come from? On other bodies, such as Titan, strong gravitational forces churn up the centre of the moon to create the volcanoes, but that couldn’t happen on Pluto.
Possibly it’s driven by radioactive material in Pluto’s core. But as yet, it’s all just speculation.
