REAL LIFE NEWS: THE MOST POPULAR PASSWORDS USED LAST YEAR

by Hazed

A security firm which analyses lists of stolen passwords has announced the most popular passwords of 2015.

SplashData looked at 2 million passwords which had been leaked in the last year, and discovered that references to Star Wars were very popular.

The list also features old favourites. At number 1 is 123456, followed by the word password itself. At least six of the entries in the top ten are strings of consecutive numbers.

The Star Wars references include princess, solo and starwars.

Oh dear. It seems people never learn.

What are we supposed to do? The source article below suggests a method of choosing a password that can’t be guessed: picking a line from your favourite song, shortening it to the initials of each words, making some of them upper case, and swapping some letters for symbols. The trouble is the result is completely unmemorable gibberish.

Click the second link below for a cartoon that explains just how messed up the whole password system is! It’s an oldie but goodie.
