REAL LIFE NEWS: A CAMPAIGN PROMISE I CAN REALLY APPROVE OF

by Hazed

Amidst the amusement of the campaign promises made by presidential hopefuls in the current US primaries, one caught my eye. John Kasich, the Ohio governor who is aiming to win the Republican nomination, has pledged to reunite my favourite band: Pink Floyd.

This would be quite a feat. Leaving aside the fact that keyboard player Rick Wright died in 2008, the singer and guitarist Dave Gilmour has stated that the band has run its course and won’t play together again.

Nevertheless, Kasich has pledged to reunite Gilmour with ex-band member Roger Walters, who left the band after a spectacular falling out in 1985. The two didn’t speak to each other for years. They finally got back together for a one-off performance at the Live 8 concert in 2005, which was very moving for fans like myself, but I think it’s supremely unlikely they are now firm friends, or will want to work together again.

“Roger Waters is a remarkable artist,” Kasich said. “I saw The Wall in Pittsburgh; it was absolutely incredible. And if I’m president, I am going to once and for all try to reunite Pink Floyd to come together and play a couple of songs.”

Well, I know the US President has a lot of power – after all, Bill Clinton did manage to get Fleetwood Mac to reform for his inaugural ball – but I expect that reunited Pink Floyd is beyond even POTUS’ limits!
