REAL LIFE NEWS: WAITDROIDS SACKED AND REPLACED BY FLESHY HUMANS
by Hazed
In a case of real life trying to imitate Fed, and failing, three restaurants in China which had experimented with using robots as waiters have decided that they are not up to the job.
The robowaiters were a great gimmick to get punters through the door, but they weren’t so good at actually serving food and drink to customers. “The mobility of the catering staff was great, we initially recruited six for service, but after a year we only retained one,” says a hotpot restaurant supervisor named Ms Liang.
Another staff members reported, “Their services were limited. They couldn’t pour water for customers, nor could they take orders.”
Two of the restaurants have closed down while the third has reverted to using human servers, keeping just one of their robots.
So it seems that human waiters don’t have to worry about robots taking their jobs just yet.
