IF YOU GET INVOLVED IN A FIGHT, YOUR SHIP WILL NEED FIXING UP

As well as working on new FedTerm, Alan has started coding some of the stuff the game will need as support for ship fighting. Because it’s not enough to just give you the ability to blast each other to bits, there are other things that go along with the actual acts of violence and mayhem.

Specifically: ship repairs. It’s not going to be much fun if you get holes blown in your hull, and have no way to repair them. Without a shipyard to patch them up, your ship will continue to leak, and the reduced hull strength will make future fights even more risky.

You may remember that in classic Fed, ships needed to be repaired even if you didn’t get into a fight. Wear and tear meant they degraded over time, and if you didn’t visit a ship repair facility to sort out the damage, eventually your shiny ship would turn into a rotten rustbucket.

Alan says he probably won’t recode ship degradation in, so you won’t have to worry about that. Ship repair shops will get enough work dealing with the after-effects of fighting.

POs would be advised to review their planet maps to ensure they have a ship repair facility because money from the repairs will (probably) go into their treasuries.
