DUMB CRIMINALS OF THE WEEK: TINFOIL BLAGGERS

Two Brazilian criminals are up for this week’s “dumb criminal of the week” award. They tried to rob a bank while adopting a novel approach to foiling security.
And I use the word “foiling” deliberately – because they wrapped themselves in aluminium foil! They thought this would screen them from alarm sensors. Whether they were correct in this assumption is unclear, but they were most definitely visible to staff at the bank’s CCTV monitoring centre!
The pair were trying to rob a branch of Banco do Brasil in Sao Paulo. The operatives who spotted them on camera called the police, but the tinfoil blaggers were able to make a getaway before the cops arrived – it’s thought they were tipped off by an accomplice outside the bank.
They left behind blowtorches which indicated that they had intended to target the safe.
One of the wannabe robbers was captured later that afternoon.
Their tinfoil coverings may not have helped them evade the bank’s security, but they were presumably safe from government mind rays while carrying out their crime!
