DUMB POLICE AND BANKERS OF THE WEEK: THEY IGNORED WARNINGS

A bank in central Milan, Italy, was robbed last week despite residents hearing the noises the tunnelling made.
Four robbers dug a tunnel under a bank, and locals warned the bank and the police that they had heard suspicious tunnelling noises and that something odd was going on under the building. But the authorities did nothing.
The robbers came out of their tunnel inside the bank, then waited for the first employees to arrive. They forced the staff to open the safe and empty the safety deposit boxes.
Police showed up after the bank’s alarm went off, but by the time they arrived the thieves had made their getaway.
One local reported that, “We began hearing noises on Sunday evening. We were jokingly saying to each other, ‘Are they robbing the bank?’ On Monday one of us went to the bank to warn them about the tremors we had felt. Others went to the nearest police station on Tuesday because the sounds had not stopped.”
On Thursday, the night before the robbery, “even the pavement outside was shaking”, they added.
How embarrassing for the police and the bank staff!
