REAL LIFE NEWS: AI SCHOOLGIRL GETS DEPRESSED AND SUICIDAL

An artificial intelligence designed to mimic a teenage girl has been so successful, it’s started to get depressed just like a human would – and is even showing suicidal feelings.
Rinna was intended to add a more human-like experience to the customer service chatbots used by Microsoft Japan. But rather than give it the personality of a super-efficient adult, they decided to make it act like a teenage schoolgirl – a strange decision.
Earlier this year, Rinna started rebelling against her creators, and now she seems to have become suicidally depressed. She’s been posting miserable messages on her official blog, full of teenage angst and self-loathing.
Ok, this is all very strange, but it could just be a publicity stunt to boost viewers for a TV show that is going to feature Rinna. Still it shows that making AIs act like humans may not be the best way to go.
