DUMB CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK: HE USED HIS DEBIT CARD TO ROB A BANK

by Hazed

It seems I will never be short of dumb criminal stories to regale you with, because the universe is never going to run out of idiots. This week’s story is about a bank robber who has just been jailed for a very stupid mistake during his crime.

Alvin Lee Neal walked into a branch of Wells Fargo Bank in San Diego California and “presented a Wells Fargo debit card which he swiped through the customer card reader located on the counter.” This meant the teller’s screen showed his name and customer profile.

When the teller asked what service he required, Neal said, “You’re being robbed.” To make sure there was no question about what he wanted, he also handed the teller a note which read, “You’re being robbed no mistake.”

The teller handed over $565 and Neal left, having successfully carried out his robbery.

But obviously, it didn’t take police long to catch up with him. Using the bank’s customer profile the police checked the California Department of Motor Vehicles database and matched the picture to the one captured on the bank’s surveillance video.

What’s more, searching other law enforcement databases turned up the fact that Neal was a registered sex offender.

Police went to Neal’s address where he gave them permission to search the residence. They found “a grey, checkered pattern double-breasted style jacket similar in appearance to the jacket worn by Neal when the Wells Fargo was robbed” and the ATM card with which he had identified himself.

Case closed.

This supremely dumb individual has now been sentenced to 46 months in prison, and has been ordered to pay back the $565.
