PICTURE OF THE WEEK: MOON OVER EARTH
by Hazed
There’s a new satellite in orbit around the Earth whose job it is to observe the planet – and to take pictures. GOES-16 is 22,3000 miles above the equator and it will be watching Earth’s weather systems to enable more accurate weather forecasting.
This photo shows the full moon over the planet Earth, taken a few weeks ago. While the moon isn’t part of the satellite’s focus, it will use it as a calibration target for its observations.
