DUMB CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK: PENSIONER ROBBED BANK TO GET AWAY FROM HIS WIFE

A 70-year-old man from Kansas City recently robbed a bank and had a very unusual excuse for why he’d done it – he said he wanted to get away from his wife.
Yes, going to jail for robbery would certainly do that!
Lawrence John Ripple had been suffering from depression following heart surgery. He told his wife he would rather be in jail than at home, and wrote out his robbery note in front of her. Then he went to the Bank of Labor and gave the note to the teller. It said that he had a gun and was demanding money.
After he received the money, he waited for the police to show up. He didn’t have to wait long because the police headquarters was only a block away.
The judge at his recent trial was obviously sympathetic because he sentenced Ripple to probation. No word on the wife’s reaction, though!
