NEWSDROID HOLIDAY NEXT WEEKEND

My newsdroids came with a very large operators manual. It’s the size of the complete works of Shakespeare, the Galactic Administration’s tax code, and all fourteen volumes of Brix Chanterel’s memoirs, combined. So naturally I haven’t read it all.
But I have skimmed through the bits that look most important, just so I can be sure that I am using them to their full potential. For example, I discovered that they have a setting that lets me determine their level of grovelling. This is so useful to me, because my requirements change depending on my mood - sometimes I just want light grovelling, other times I am in the mood for complete servility.
Thing2 itself drew my attention to one section in the manual, which says that the droids require regular periods of down time, in order to process all the data they have accumulated. It’s the kind of things humans usually do while we are asleep, but since droids don’t sleep they need to switch off their consciousnesses every so often, during which time some data is moved to permanent storage, and other trivial stuff is deleted.
So next weekend, they will be settling down in their droidholes to perform this essential data maintenance, which means there will be no Fed2 Star.
(In the real world, Monday is a public holiday in the UK.)
