REAL LIFE NEWS: TRAPPED BUTCHER USES BLACK PUDDING TO BREAK OUT OF FREEZER

A butcher who became trapped in his walk-in freezer was able to escape using a frozen black pudding as a battering ram.
Chris McCabe walked into the freezer in his butcher’s shop in Devon, England, and the door blew shut behind him. The freezer had a door-release button on the inside – but it had frozen shut, leaving him stuck in temperatures of 20C (-4F), which could kill a human in about an hour.
“No-one could hear me banging,” he said. So he had to search for a way to shift the frozen button. A joint of beef was too slippery, and lamb was too big, but then he happened on the black pudding.
He said: “It was the right shape. I used it like the police use battering rams to break door locks in. It was solid, pointed and I could get plenty of weight behind it. I’m lucky really. We sell about two or three each week and that was the last one in there.”
For our American readers, black pudding is made from animal blood mixed with fat and oatmeal. Slices of it are fried and form a delicious part of a full English breakfast.
