REAL LIFE NEWS: DON’T WORRY, ROBOTS WON’T STEAL YOUR JOBS

We all know we have to fear the rise of the robots, when the mechanical creatures we made rebel against us and slaughter us all.
Well, maybe not. But a more realistic fear is that as robotics and artificial intelligence is used more and more in industry and business, robots will take our jobs, leaving us all unemployed. A study in 2013 predicted that 47% of jobs in the US could be automated over the next 20 years.
However, a new report says it’s not going to be anything like that bad. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and development (OECD) thinks the figure will be nearer 10% for the US and 12% for the UK.
The researchers say that previous forecasts grouped jobs with the same title together without taking into account the kinds of things the workers actually do. This served to exaggerate the effect of automation.
The truth is, nobody really knows how effective AI is going to be in the future, and therefore it’s impossible to tell which jobs are at risk. But for now, you’re probably safe.
