Designing a Web Site:
Introduction

This series of articles, to be written over time, will cover many aspects of designing a web site. It's primarily aimed at individuals, not at companies or organizations. It will cover what to put on the web site, the tools to use to put the site together, how to make it look nice, and some of the things not to do.

Why do I feel I am qualified to write this? Because I have been working on various web pages for several years, and I currently publish a huge web site for my company, with over 400 pages of information - as well as this, my own personal web site. And in the course of my web-surfing, I have seen so many god-awful pages out there that look dreadful, are hard to navigate, and don't give any useful information. Hardly anyone seems to get it right. So I reckon I am as qualified as anyone else to talk about what makes a good web site.
