CRYPTOGRAMS

by Catspaws
Saturday, July 8

Customs ships will stop anyone, even the most superb game hostess in Fed. On this particular day, I happened to be hauling a shipload of... tuna... when the customs cruiser pulled up beside me. After a bit of bartering, they agreed to release me, if I provided their canteen with some fresh fish. Seems they were rather tired of the bland cuisine they were forced to eat day after day. So, I followed the cruiser to Titan, and instructed the stevedores to carry several barrels of fresh-caught tuna to the canteen. I started to proceed on my way, but the customs inspectors insisted I follow them to the canteen and instruct their cooks on cooking methods. (I cook?) Anyway, this is where I found myself when it was time for this week's Cryptograms game.

We had the smallest crowd we've ever had this week, with only Fancy, Gradon and Zand showing up. Gwaptiva preferred to attend some special sports event instead. Men! How can anything be more important than Cryptograms? I think you can guess our three top players this week, and perhaps even the order. Fancy, Gradon and Zand solved the first puzzle in that order.

NAMES OF FINANCIERS:
N M B V
I X X Q
Z M X H K T K B W
R I B W E T K W P
T M Y Y P C
R W M V H K

I try to be instructive in the puzzles I use each week, so for the second puzzle, I went to the command library. Gradon solved this puzzle before Fancy.

THINGS YOU CAN DISPLAY (HELP DISPLAY):
Z R M P C
C X T P Z
Z O Z V H U
A X R W M V P Z U
U K U H Z R U
W C M V Z H

For the third puzzle, I tried to provide a bit more of a challenge, using entries with the same number of letters. Again, Gradon finished before Fancy, while Zand kept his comfortable third place position.

NON-SOL PLANETS WITH SIX LETTERS (DI SYSTEMS):
Z V N T P D
S K Q J T D
Q B P J S B
U L S S E L
J E P L K Q
S L E E B P

I never pretended to like futures. That doesn't mean I don't try to teach futures to others. (This would have been a good topic if some new traders had been playing.) Fancy finished first this time.

TERMS USED WITH FUTURES (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/futures/glossary.html):
T X D Q / F X D J E K F J
C I F S K D Q C / C M C D J
Z K E Q W D / F K T T
H K B C / A E W F C
T W L O W R K J C
V O J O E C B / A E W F C

For the final puzzle, I dug into the new builds we've been doing on our planets. Going into this puzzle, Fancy and Gradon were tied. Fancy finished first, securing his win by a single point over Gradon, with Zand coming in third.

TYPES OF PLANETARY BUILDS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/builds/list.html):
Z U L U E V
Q R E Y Z W
Q R E E I P Y R L / Z R L P T R E
J U H Y E N / U E E R M U L Z W V
U D T Y Z I E P I T U E / Z R E E W D W
U P H R V Q K W T Y Z / Z R L P T R E

Thanks to our three regulars for playing this week. Cryptograms is going to take a break for the summer; we'll be back later in the year.
