Nope. It seems the saying is absolutely spot on: at least it is when it comes to bank robbery. A group of economists have examined the data and come to the conclusion that the rate of return for the typical bank job is, they say, “frankly, rubbish”.
The amount taken in an average bank robbery is only £20,330.50, which has to be split between the thieves who carry out the robbery. To make a decent living you’d have to knock over a lot of banks – and that just means you’re more likely to get caught.
